marathon mommies: weekly log

By now, you can pretty much guarantee I'll be a little late with posting my weekly log. Just bear with me! Things are going well and I'm happy to say that I bought a new pair of running shoes today. My feet were in desperate need of this purchase. Suffice to say, when I attempted my 7 mile run on Saturday, I fell short of finishing my run by about 1 1/2 miles. To spare you the gruesome details, I will only tell you my reason for quitting involved a very sore and bloody toe. Sorry, I guess that was still gruesome. Had my toes and shoes been in working order, I know I could've physically finished my run. But alas, I wasn't about to lose a toenail or do extensive damage to my foot just to run another 1 1/2 miles.

I took my new shoes out for a test run tonight and they felt mighty nice. New shoes always feel weird, so I know it will take a little time to get used to them, but I'm confident they're a good fit. Even though my calendar suggests taking time off over the holidays, I've decided I will continue my training through the weekend. I know if I don't, I'll be feeling it next week when I attempt to run 5 miles on Monday again.

That's not to say YOU should run over the holidays. Take some time off and enjoy it! You've been working hard and I'm proud of you!

I am SO glad that you found the time to get some new running shoes...sounds like your TOES desperately needed them!!! What a painful run you had on Saturday!! OUCH! :-( I hope that these shoes make all of the difference in the world!

As far as running for the weekend, other than running a 10K tomorrow, I will be resting my body. I am kind of nervous to run...for one, I haven't run an actual race for YEARS! And, I just don't know exactly how to pace myself or exactly how fast/slow I should be running to push myself yet still have the endurance to finish as well. We will see, I guess! :-)

My weekly running has been going well so far...and so much better after I got new shoes too!

Have a great weekend away with your family!! That sounds like a fun time...I will pray right now for SLEEP for everyone...it is so important!!! Take care!

Owie, on the toe front. I hope your shoes feel better and better. Great job on the running too.

I made it out for a 5 mile run/walk with the kids in the jogging stroller on Monday. We stopped halfway through at a park so that they could go swimming. Otherwise, I went on the treadmill Tuesday, Wednesday, & Friday. I have trouble staying motivated to keep the pace up and run the entire time, and I got a couple of side aches again. But, I have pushed it to the 3 mile mark and 30 minute mark. It's getting better.

Happy Independence Day!

So, I am joining the ranks for the marathon mommies. I am registering for a 10k on August 24th in Evergreen, CO (should be a beautiful run) and a half marathon on October 19th in Denver! I am excited. I did a 30 min. run this morning which went well. And my 30 min run on Wed. felt great like I could have run for hours (except Kris had to leave for work so I had to get back to the kiddos). I am excited to join you on this journey.

Oh your poor toe! I know how you feel...I'm getting blisters and issues. How do you avoid that? I have decided to sign up for a Labor Day 10K. I've never done one before and need some kind of list like you have for training. I've never been a runner, but have increased my sprints and what I have been doing.

Know you are gone now - hope you are having a great time!
